Using the app

How do I add a bottle?+

Three ways: scan the barcode on the back label, search the shared catalog by name, or enter it by hand. A scanned or catalog bottle arrives with its provenance already filled in — category, agave species, region, maestro, ABV — and you can edit any field afterwards. Each physical bottle is tracked as sealed, open or finished.

My bottle isn't in the catalog. What then?+

Add it yourself and submit it to the shared catalog. Submissions are reviewed before they appear for other people, and the bottle is fully usable in your cabinet in the meantime. Once accepted it becomes part of a crowdsourced registry everyone uses, so it stays in the catalog — anonymized, without your name — even if you later delete your account.

Which spirits does Tahona cover?+

Tequila, mezcal, raicilla, sotol and bacanora. The catalog is organised the way these spirits actually are — by agave species, region, palenque or distillery, NOM, clase and batch — rather than by a generic bottle record.

Do I need an account?+

Yes — your collection and notes sync to your account so they survive a lost phone. You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password. Apple's Hide My Email works normally.

Ask Tahona, flights & following

What can I ask, and what does it cost?+

Preset questions — what to try or open next, gaps in the collection, your style profile, cocktails, a QPR check, a next bottle under a budget, food pairings and production notes on a single bottle, or a comparison between two — are free, up to ten questions a day. Open-ended questions you type yourself are part of the paid tier.

What gets sent when I ask a question?+

Your question and the relevant catalog details of the bottles involved — names, categories and similar fields — are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the answer. The requests are not used to identify you. If you never open the feature, nothing is sent.

Why was an answer instant, and can I get a fresh one?+

Per-bottle answers and the Learn topics are cached and shared, so the second person to ask gets the answer immediately and it costs nothing against your daily allowance. Collection answers are always computed fresh from your live inventory. Any cached answer has a Regenerate control, and any answer has Go deeper for a longer version.

What is a flight, and how is one built?+

A flight is an ordered set of three to six pours. You choose the goal — learn something, showcase your best, a blind challenge, an intro for a guest — a theme such as regions or agave varieties, and whether to draw only from bottles you own. Every choice is a preset, and the result is saved as a tasting list you can work through with other people.

What does following someone do?+

Their additions, openings, reviews and new lists appear on your home screen, and you can like or comment on them. Following is optional and one-directional — the app is a cabinet first. What you see of another collector is their profile, their lists and their public statistics, never their private shelf.

Your data and account

Who can see my collection and my tasting notes?+

Your bottles — including what you paid and where they're stored — and your tasting notes are private to you. Your profile, your lists and their contents, your follows, and any likes or comments you leave are visible to other signed-in users. Lists are a sharing feature, so don't put anything in one you wouldn't want another user to read.

How do I export my collection?+

Settings → Export produces a file of your bottles and tasting notes that you can save or send elsewhere. You don't need to email us to get your data out.

How do I delete my account?+

Settings → Delete Account, inside the app. It removes your account record, collection, tasting notes, lists, flights, follows, push tokens and AI usage records. Catalog submissions are kept but anonymized. There's no waiting period and it can't be undone.

Are there ads or trackers?+

No ads, no third-party ad tracking, no advertising identifiers, and nothing sold or shared with data brokers. Product analytics and crash reports are pseudonymous and used only to fix and improve the app.

Permissions and access

Why does the app ask for the camera?+

One reason only: reading the barcode on a bottle. Frames are processed on the device and never stored or uploaded. The app does not request microphone access and records no audio or video. Declining the camera permission only costs you barcode scanning.

Can I turn notifications off?+

Yes. Notifications are off until you turn them on, and you can switch them off again in Settings or in your device's system settings at any time.

Why does it ask my age?+

Tahona is rated 18+ and is for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction, so it asks you to confirm that once before the app can be used. Nothing about your date of birth is stored beyond that confirmation.

The app crashed or a bottle looks wrong.+

Email us with the bottle name or the screen you were on. Crashes also reach us automatically as a pseudonymous report with a stack trace, device model and app version, which usually tells us enough to fix it. Catalog corrections are welcome — the registry is only as good as the people correcting it.

Question not here? Write to us — the same address reaches the person who builds the app.
